Richard Rengel, Principal, started in the architectural field in 1973 and has extensive experience in almost all aspects of Architecture. He has owned Rengel+Company, Architects since 1983 and has been the lead designer for commercial office, retail and industrial design. His contractor’s license from 1985 has advanced the firm’s abilities in construction management. Along the way, specialties in Historical rehabilitation were acquired by working with the state historical architect on the Old Orange County Courthouse. In 1989, Mr. Rengel became an expert in California’s first accessibility laws (prior to the ADA) by working with one of the recognized disability access consultants to provide the architectural solutions to accessibility barriers and is an ICC certified accessibility inspector.

Significant Projects include the addition to the Honda Center, restoration of the Old Orange County Courthouse and Grijalva Gymnasium (Orange). Clients include most of the Southern California cities/counties and developers such as ProLogis and the Irvine Company.

Mr. Rengel oversees all of the projects as is the Principal-in-Charge. This responsibility includes attending critical meetings with the project staff, organizing workflow within the office, managing the project schedule and progress in weekly staff meetings. He will also be maintaining the quality control of the architectural documents, including review of the engineering drawings, and work specifically on ADA/accessibility and general constructability.

Sadia Syed, Project Manager, received her Bachelors in Architecture N.E.D. University of Engineering Karachi in 1981 and Masters in Architecture from the University of Oklahoma, Norman, Oklahoma in 1984. Ms. Syed has worked with Rengel+Company Architects since 1986. This long-term combination of educational and practical experience has allowed Ms. Syed to complete numerous challenging projects. These projects include retail, service industry, industrial and medical applications and have ranged from ground-up buildings and additions, to historical restoration and tenant improvements.

Terry Smith, Project Manager, joined Rengel+Company Architects as a draftsman in 1987 and has dedicated his 33-year career to a wide range of commercial, industrial, entertainment and retail projects. His extensive experience in the industry allows him to creatively design and manage diverse and highly complex projects. Terry’s leadership and integrity, coupled with his innovative design strategies, have laid the groundwork for a list of notable projects and repeated client satisfaction. ICC Certified Accessibility Inspector / Plans Examiner Certification

The Certified Accessibility Inspector/Plans Examiner shall be responsible for conducting assigned inspections for compliance with Codes and Standards adopted by respective jurisdictions. Tasks include verifying the code provisions as based upon the occupancy classification and use of buildings and facilities, existing and/or altered elements related to accessibility, and determining the code compliance of submitted building plans, site plans, and other plans as required ensuring such compliance with accessibility code provisions.
